Street Fighter 6 is still being played more than basically every fighting game on PC combined

Dec 16, 2023

Street Fighter 6 appears to already be a bonafide success for Capcom in terms of sales and engagement with an enthusiastic playerbase that's continuing to come back to the game.

Even after a month post-release now, SF6 is still seeing more play than basically every other popular fighting game on PC combined.

According to Steamcharts, Street Fighter 6 saw a 24-hour concurrent player peak of 35,125 users with a 30-day average clocking in at 27,381 people playing the game at any given time.

That is about a 50% drop from the game's 70,540 all-time peak at launch, which set the record for a paid fighting game on Steam, but that's on par with what to generally expect after around a month or so.

After that drop-off, SF6's numbers are still consistently higher than every other fighting game we've ever seen on Steam with one exception.

MultiVersus' Open Beta release still has the top record overall at 153,044 concurrent players just on Steam, but that number quickly dropped to an average of 41,000 after the first month and only 8,600 after the second month where it would continue to slide.

To compare how SF6's numbers compares to the rest of the current fighting game landscape on PC, we calculated out the top 10 titles on Steam over the past month.

Beyond the new Street Fighter, Brawlhalla was the second highest at an average of 13,412 players over the past month followed by Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, DRagon Ball FighterZ, The King of Fighters 15 and yes, Street Fighter 5 still barely managed to make the cut.

When you combine those 30-day averages all together, you get 25,127 in total for the other top games, which falls short of Street Fighter 6's 27k average, but the 24-hour peaks for today put together are about 3,000 higher than SF6.

Even with the apparent domination of Street Fighter at the moment in the FGC, the overall health of the PC community is looking pretty strong, which is nice to see.

Games like Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Strive (and obviously SF5) have dipped a bit since the start of 2023, but others including MK11 and Granblue are doing better.

It is also pretty cool to see Tekken, MK and GBVS doing well when they've got new games coming on the immediate horizon, but Evo 2023 being right around the corner may be playing into that a bit too.

While Street Fighter 6's numbers are still pretty fantastic for a fighting game, the true test will be in the coming months after the honeymoon phase and Evo is over with.

At its current pace, SF6 will likely remain top dog until Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 are going to be upon us, which is going to make things even more interesting to see where the PC community is going from here.

Street Fighter 6 has managed to sell over 2 million copies already, and continued sales should help the online numbers though they're still likely to fall in the coming months.

We'll just have to wait and see what amount of pull SF6 ends up settling to in the future, but we also have to remember that the game is also available across four other systems between the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S with their own sizable bases.

We just can't see their numbers as easily.
