Ryu player wins Street Fighter 6 World Warrior event and looked really impressive doing so
Ever since Street Fighter 6 fully released a few months ago, Ryu has been seemingly taking more and more of a backseat in the competitive scene, but today showed he can still apparently keep up.
Semy28 managed to win the SF6 World Warrior event for Germany this weekend at Saltmine League using Ryu, and he looked quite impressive doing so.
Up in winner's semi-finals of top 8, Semy28 would face off against Risoh's Luke where we'd get a good taste of what makes his Shoto stand out.
Throughout the set we can see how clean the competitor plays with his perfect parries and using them as well as Super Arts to consistently counter basically every single one of Luke's Drive Impact attempts.
He also has the presence of mind to go for the Shinku Hadoken after landing his donkey kick as a Punish Counter plus some impressive-looking side switches too, taking the set in three straight games.
Even the commentators note that his consistent Shoryukens and reactions in general make him look like a Modern player, but he's doing it all classically.
Semy28 would get knocked down to the loser's bracket by Randumb's Manon in winner's finals in a close set though the Ryu main would claw his way back to grand finals to get his revenge.
Trying to reset the bracket, Semy28 makes an impressive comeback from a sliver left of his life and shows off just how much damage the rare fully charged Shin Hashogeki can do in a combo.
And to top it all off, the tournament ends with Semy28 scoring the perfect victory over Manon to get those coveted Capcom Pro Tour points.
Semy28 is coming out of this weekend as arguably the Ryu to keep an eye on considering he also managed to win another tournament today too at the Berlin Fight Fest.
Moreover, he was also able to become the highest ranking Ryu player in SF6 earlier in the week too.

Obviously, a World Warrior win isn't exactly the same as taking a stacked online major, but Semy28 still had to fight his way on top of almost 120 competitors for his hard earned points while doing so pretty convincingly.
He shows that Ryu can take home victories with his good damage output and decent conversions even if it does look like he has to work harder and play more cleanly than say Ken and Luke need to while filling similar roles.
That's a wrap on Berlin Fight Fest IV!Invaders semy28 and Dominik305 infiltrated Berlin and introduced some amazing new #sf6 competition. Thanks for the level-up injection & see you next time around.Keep your eyes peeled for the next one 👀#BerlinFGC#StreetFighter6 pic.twitter.com/FaicyaR7bH
We'll be continuing to follow Semy28 to see if he can fully pull out Ryu's full potential and how that transfers over into larger stages of competition.
If you didn't watch it, we recommend checking out the German World Warrior event for Saltmine League in their stream archive to see Semy28's full run and more great matches from the tournament.
