Laughing gas louts litter empty nitrous oxide canisters in Appleton
POLICE are to deploy extra patrols near woodland area where evidence of drug taking was found.
Cheshire Police officers on patrol in the Appleton area say they came across a number of dumped and empty nitrous oxide canisters.
Also known as laughing gas, when the colourless substance is inhaled, usually through a balloon, it can make people feel dizzy and lead to hallucinations.
If you take too much nitrous oxide, you risk falling unconscious and suffocating from the lack of oxygen. People have also died this way.
Officers will pay extra attention to the area where the canisters were found to prevent future occurrences.
The force’s Appleton Police Warrington team said: “While on patrol, your Appleton PCSO came across eight large nitrous oxide canisters.
“Inhaling nitrous oxide directly from the canister is very dangerous. It can cause a spasm of the throat muscle and stop a person from breathing.
“It can also cause paranoia, dizziness and severe headaches.
“Officers will be increasing patrols around the area where the items were found.”
